My friend shared this poem written by John Piper with our small group the other night. It’s such a beautiful contrast of the devastation and destruction we’ll see at the end of this present age and the glory, beauty, and joy we’ll find at the beginning of the next.

As far as any eye could see
There was no green. But every tree
Was cinder black, and all the ground
Was grey with ash. The only sound
Was arid wind, like spirits’ ghosts,
Now gasping for some living hosts
In which to dwell, as in the days
Of evil men, before the blaze
Of unimaginable fire
Had made the earth a flaming pyre
For God’s omnipotent display
Of holy rage. The dreadful Day
Of God had come. The moon had turned
To blood. The sun no longer burned
Above, but, blazing with desire,
Had flowed into a lake of fire.
The seas and oceans were no more,
And in their place a desert floor
Fell deep to meet the brazen skies,
And silence conquered distant cries.

The Lord stood still above the air.
His mighty arms were moist and bare.
They hung, as weary, by his side
Until the human blood had dried
Upon the sword in his right hand.
He stared across the blackened land
That he had made, and where he died.
His lips were tight, and deep inside,
The mystery of sovereign will
Gave leave, and it began to spill
In tears upon his bloody sword
For one last time.
And then the Lord
Wiped every tear away and turned
To see his bride. Her heart had yearned
Four thousand years for this: His face
Shone like the sun, and every trace
Of wrath was gone. And in her bliss
She heard the Master say, “Watch this:
Come forth all goodness from the ground,
Come forth and let the earth redound
With joy.” And as he spoke, the throne
Of God came down to earth and shone
Like golden crystal full of light,
And banished once for all the night.
And from the throne a stream began
To flow and laugh, and as it ran,
It made a river and a lake,
And everywhere it flowed a wake
Of grass broke on the banks and spread
Like resurrection from the dead.

And in the twinkling of an eye
The saints descended from the sky.

And as I knelt beside the brook
To drink eternal life, I took
A glance across the golden grass,
And saw my dog, old Blackie, fast
As she could come. She leaped the stream-
Almost-and what a happy gleam
Was in her eye.
I knelt to drink,
And knew that I was on the brink
Of endless joy. And everywhere
I turned I saw a wonder there.
A big man running on the lawn:
That’s old John Younge with both legs on.
And there’s old Beryl, and Arnold too,
Still holding hands beneath the blue
And crystal sky: No stoop, they stand
Erect. No tremor in their hand.
The blind can see a bird on wing,
The dumb can lift his voice and sing.
The diabetic eats at will,
The coronary runs uphill.
The lame can walk, the deaf can hear,
The cancer-ridden bone is clear.
Arthritic joints are lithe and free,
And every pain has ceased to be.
And every sorrow deep within,
And every trace of lingering sin
Is gone. And all that’s left is joy,
And endless ages to employ
The mind and heart to understand
And love the sovereign Lord who planned
That it should take eternity
To lavish all his grace on me.

O God of wonder, God of might,
Grant us some elevated sight,
Of endless days. And let us see
The joy of what is yet to be.
And may your future make us free,
And guard us by the hope that we,
Within the light of candle three,
Your glory will forever see.

Wow, I really don’t have too many words to express how I am feeling. I just have worship. THANK YOU JESUS!!!!

I am humbled and excited to say that we have gotten all of our visa expenses paid off above and beyond!! I really sat at my computer weeping this morning thinking #1 about my faithlessness, and #2 about his faithfulness and kindness even in the midst of my weakness. I’m not going to lie, when I found out we had to get all of this medical stuff done my immediate reaction was anger and doubt. I really didn’t have much faith for seeing almost $1000 come in in just a few weeks. But here I sit, and it has all poured in. I am humbled. I really can’t do much else but lay on my face and say, forgive me, thank You, You are worthy.

Things like this give us such confidence that we are right where God wants us to be. Sometimes when things get hard and you are head down in the midst of it, it is so easy to lose sight of his call and his promises. But I am reminded again today. I would not trade this past 3 years of life on the mission field for anything. The history and confidence I have received in the Lord are gold that can NEVER be taken away.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to our need. Thank you for demonstrating the love of Jesus through the body of Christ. We are blessed beyond words.

Dear friends and family,

As most of you know, the visa we are currently under has come to it’s renewal point. Until now we were under the impression that no medical examinations were required for this visa as we submitted them less than 2 years ago (and that is their requirement). However, our visa applications were returned to us today and we now must provide them with medical’s because the “date of examination” was outside the 2 year period- and just by a mere 2 weeks! (we were going by the date submitted, as that was the date that we were to provide on the application).

We know the Lord’s will for us is to renew this visa and continue on for another 2 years, but we now face an unexpected roadblock. Our visa’s expire on 12 of November, so this is quite an urgent need.

Right now we are in need of $940 NZ dollars/ roughly $750 US dollars.

-$250 medical examination x2

-$120 chest x-ray x2

-$100 blood test x2

This is not something our overseas insurance covers (as it is not accident/sickness) And if we weren’t doing this for immigration the work would be free under our NZ healthcare, so either way we’re out of pocket.

We have some special prayer requests

Here is a little bit of Selah’s story- Why we named her what we named her.

I always knew the Lord would give me a little girl one day. He gave me her name many years ago before Zach and I were even married. You may think it’s weird to think about the babies you’ll have with a man you’re not married to yet, but hey I knew we were going in that direction. I felt like the Lord was speaking to me about our firstborn, that she would be a combination of the two of us. He spoke to me about the kind of woman she would become. Selah, meaning to pause, consider, think upon the Lord, or to praise. (This was the piece of Zach that she would carry) and Joy, the meaning is obvious (This is the piece of me she would carry. The Lord spoke powerfully to me on my DTS in 2006 and gave me a new name and a new banner over my life- Joy), but the Lord gave me John 15 as a banner over her life.

“If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.”- verse 7

“These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and [that] your joy may be full.”-verse 11

“No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you. You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and [that] your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.”- verses 15-16

That she will be one who knew the Father’s voice and will abide in his love and from that, joy would abound more and more. This is where her joy will be and this is where her joy will come from. She will be a burning and shining lamp- just like the disciples, people will know she has been with Jesus. She will be a friend of the bridegroom that loves the living Word. I clung to his promise, knowing she existed in his heart even before she existed in my tummy. Zach and I prayed for her even before she was conceived and talked in certainty of her arrival one day. And faithful he is. May 19, 2011 began a whole new chapter in the life of the Wheelers with the birth of our darling baby girl Selah Joy Wheeler. Our lives have been forever changed, but certainly for the good. We are delighted to have her tag along as the 3rd wheel for the rest of our lives.

News as of this morning- Looks like I won’t be going into hospital. The mastitis looks like it is subsiding, so the new antibiotics must be doing the trick. The staf infection is getting better, but is still painful and not ideal for Selah to nurse from yet. Please continue to pray for speedy and complete healing.

In other news, we weighed Selah today and she has finally made it back to her birthweight! She has gained a substantial amount in the past 3 days! We are so pleased to hear this progress. She has been a much more interested feeder (at the bottle still) but we are just glad she is getting more volume (and it’s still my milk anyways). Please continue to pray that she won’t be affected by her long term bottle feeding and will have no problems nursing from me when I am healed.

“Not a cry wasted. Not a prayer thrown into the darkness. Not a word wasted. You hear my prayer.”

This is more an update post/ prayer request for momma more than baby. I now have multiple infections (mastitis and staf) in my breast. I have been switched to a different antibiotic that the staf is not resistant to, however if things have not improved in the next 24 hours I will have to be emitted into hospital for 24-28 hrs of IV antibiotics. I am unable to even try to breast feed Selah (which is the best thing to unblock ducts) because it is too painful, and she gets too frustrated at the slow flow. However, I still have to pump, which is excruciating pain. Please pray for sudden healing, that I wouldn’t have to go to hospital and that the infections would clear so I can begin to try to nurse Selah again. Also, that she wouldn’t be affected by all of this bottle feeding and that in the end she will be exclusively breast fed.
